Haven was an international ocean shipping workflow, tracking, and documentation platform, catered to commodity producers and traders seeking efficient management of their international logistics. By connecting companies requiring overseas shipping with carriers having available container spaces, Haven aimed to streamline the complex world of logistics. 

The platform earned recognition and was later acquired by FourKites, a global leader in real-time supply chain visibility.

Challenge

In the logistics sector, the use of tracking codes is standard practice to monitor goods throughout the shipping process. However, Haven faced a considerable challenge – reliance on individual carriers for ship and container tracking status. 

Each carrier operated its own tracking system, necessitating Haven to manually update thousands of tracking statuses in their platform only once every 24 hours. This manual process proved expensive, slow, and provided a bad experience for end-users who were unable to access centralized near real-time shipping information across all of their cargo.

Solution

Shrine stepped in to address this challenge by implementing a comprehensive automation solution. The first step involved the development of a software tool capable of automatically retrieving data from all supplier APIs and websites multiple times a day. After that, this data was processed, normalized into Haven’s data models, enriched with additional information, and centralized into a single, accessible database.

This transformation allowed Haven to provide near real-time access to shipping information for all its clients across all shipping carriers.
